User Text 1 This work is a surimono or privately commissioned print. This print shows Yang Guifei, Yokihi in Japanese (719–756 CE), the beloved consort of the Emperor Xuanzong, who died tragically during the An Lushan rebellion (755–763 CE). This historical figure was romanticized in the cultural imaginations of China and Japan throughout the ages.
